Descendant Information

Obituary of daughter Lenore:2183 "Lenora Finley, nee Focht, daughter of John and Mary Focht, was born November 17, 1952 (sic; i.e. 1852) and departed this life, February 5, 1925; aged 72 years, 2 months, 18 days. She was united in marriage with Greenberry Chiles March 2, 1872. To this union were born five children: Mrs. B. W. Mertz, St. Johns; Mrs. Henry Metz, Wapakoneta, R. 6; Mr. E. S. Chiles, Sidney, Ohio; Mrs. E. R. Crosley, Jackson Center, and Mrs. Mary Harrod of Waynesfield who preceded her in death. Her husband was also called by death March 10, 1885. On October 23, 1891, she was united in marriage to John M. Finley with whom she lived happily until April 19, 1911, when he was called away in death. Nora, as she was familiarly called, united with the Wesley Chapel church at its meeting held at this place by Rev. A. J. Frisbie in the year 1875, and has ever since lived a beautiful consistent life, beloved by everyone that knew her. She leaves to mourn, besides the above named children, five step children. They are: Mrs. Isaac Wright of Henry county; Mr. A. W. Finley, Gutman; Mrs. Charles Hower, New Hampshire; Mrs. Philip Gross, Santa Fe; Mr. J. W. Finley, Gutman. Also three brothers: namely, Mr. Arnold Focht, Lima; Mr. L. B. Focht, Nebraska; Mr. J. W. Focht, Livingston, Montana. Thirty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a large circle of friends and associates who will arise and call her blessed. As could be expected, her last hours were victorious; she planned her own funeral services, bade goodbye to friends and fell asleep in the arms of Jesus to awaken in a brighter clime where sickness, sorrow and death never can enter. Peace to her memory." [Note: A lengthy obituary of Lenore's second husband John M. Finley is printed on the same page.]
