Notes for Johann Christopher "Stophel" LERCH

Biographical Sketch (1985):1513, p. 46. "Christopher Lerch, as Caspar Lerch’s seemingly favored son, would have been expected to stay in Berks County. In 1766 he received essentially 180 acres of land from his father’s estate for 225 pounds. In 1776 he seems to have received additional land (Deed book B3, p. 6) from his father-in-law, Michael Staudt, that had been conveyed to him by Thomas Penn (Philadelphia County, Deed book Aa, vol. 2, p. 46).

His whereabouts or descendants of his children after leaving Berks County are unknown. In 1784 he disappears from the Heidelberg Township tax lists. This information agrees well with the fact that none of his children were baptized in Berks County after the beginning of 1785 and the fact that in 1784 he sold his farm to his brother-in-law Michael Lauer of Bern Township for $500 (Deed book, vol. P1, p. 97)."
