Notes for William MAGILL

Biographical Sketch (1938):1061, p. 4. "Other Magills of Augusta County, Virginia, close of kin to John Magill, began emigrating to Lincoln County about this time. Among them was William Magill, an uncle who died in Lincoln County. His will was probated in 1813 and is interesting in that it shows he was a distiller and a man of some means. He left his share in the Stanford Library to his male heirs. Among several children, William had one named John who lived in his latter years near Hustonville. He is not to be confused with his cousin John Magill, the pioneer and author of Franklin County, Kentucky."

1774 Military Service:1072 William McGill took part in Dunmore’s War for 199 days with Captain Joseph Haynes Company from Bedford County, Virginia.
