Notes for Hannah PATTERSON

1810 Birth:1637 Birth year of 1810 calculated based on age of 41 years in the 1850 census enumeration. Birth place assumed to be Augusta County, Virginia because Hannah's birth was listed as Virginia in both the 1850 and 1860 census enumerations and because the Patterson and Sillin families resided in Augusta County, Virginia prior to relocating to Licking County, Ohio.

1820 U.S. Census:1483 Hannah enumerated, along with her sister Rebecca, as one of two females under the age of 10 in the household of her father Adam Patterson in Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio. Their mother, Rebecca Moore, died the previous year and Adam had remarried to Ann Crow at the time of the census. Adam and Rebecca were married for just short of thirteen years (1805-1819) and produced three children, each living in the Patterson household in 1820: Ephraim, age 12; Hannah, age 10, and Rebecca, age 3. Also residing in the household were older step-sisters Lydia and Elizabeth, Adam's daughters from his first marriage to Sophia Jones, and his new wife Ann Crow.

1830 U.S. Census:1485 Hannah Patterson enumerated in the household of her father Adam Patterson in Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio as a female age 15-20; Hannah was age 18. Also residing in the household were half-brother (Jordan) and four half-sisters (Elizabeth, Ruinda, Malinda, Matilda), one sister (Rebecca), step-mother Ann Crow, and 6 year old Cyrus, son of half-sister Elizabeth. The households of brother Ephraim Patterson and step-brother-in-law Philip B. Moore (husband of half--sister Lydia) were adjacent.

1831 Marriage:2864,1485,2866 Marriage date of 1831 estimated based on: 1) the 1830 census enumeration listing John as living with his parents in Augusta County, Virginia and Hannah as living with her father Adam Patterson in Licking County Virginia; and 2) the birth of their oldest child, Servetus, in May 1832, as documented by the 1900 census enumeration.

1840 U.S. Census:2844 Hannah Sillin enumerated in the household of her husband John P. Sillin in Bennington Township, Licking County, Ohio, as a female between the age of 30 and 40; Hannah was age 30. Other residents in the household were one male between the ages of 5-10 (Sylvanus, age 8); two females under the age of 5 (Sarah, age 3, and Elizabeth, age 2); one female between the ages of 5-10 (Amanda Jane, age 6); and one unidentified male, between the ages of 60-70.

1850 U.S. Census:1637 Hannah Sillin enumerated in the household of her husband John P. Sillin in Moulton Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, as a female, age 41, born in Virginia. Children enumerated in the household were Sylvanus, age 18; Jane, age 14; (Sarah) Ann, age 14; Elizabeth, age 12; Luther, age 9; Philip, age 7; and Melinda, age 3.

1860 U.S. Census:2842 Hannah Sillin enumerated in the household of her husband John P. Sillin in Moulton Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, as a female, age 51, born in Virginia. Children enumerated in the household were Sylvanus, age 27; Amanda Jane, age 25; Sarah A., age 23; Elizabeth, age 22; Luther, age 19; Philip B., age 17; Malinda, age 13; Louisa, age 8; and William, age 3.
