1850 U.S. Census:1636 Ephraim enumerated in the household of his father William Morey in Moulton Township, Auglaize County, Ohio as a male, age 4, born in Ohio. Six siblings (Andrew, Wilson, Clarinda, Martin, Stillman, and Matilda) also resided in the household.

1860 U.S. Census:544 Ephraim enumerated in the household of his widowed mother Rebecca Morey in Logan Township, Auglaize County, Ohio as a male, age 13, born in Ohio, in school within the year. Five other siblings (Clarinda, Martin, Stillman, Matilda, and Cyrus) also resided in the household.

1862 Volunteer Enlistment Form:184 Signed by Ephraim Morey with his mark on August 29, 1862, lists age as 17 years 11 months and states he was born in Auglaize County, Ohio.

1862 Military Service:184 Ephraim Morey, Pvt., a detachment of U.S. recruits organized into one full maximum company for the 81 Reg't Ohio Infantry (this organization subsequently became Co. G, 81st Reg't, Ohio Infantry), appears on Company Muster and Descriptive Roll of the organization named above. Roll dated Camp Lima, Ohio, Oct. 2, 1862. Where born Auglaize Co., Ohio; age 18 years; occupation blacksmith; when enlisted Aug. 29, 1862; where enlisted Lima, O., for what period enlisted 3 years. Eyes blue; hair fair; complexion fair; height 5 ft 7 in. When mustered in Oct. 2, 1862; where mustered in Camp Lima, Ohio. Bounty paid $25.00. Remarks: Premium paid $4.00.

1864 Company Descriptive Book:184 Ephraim Morey, Co. G, 81st Reg't Ohio Infantry, appears on Company Descriptive Book of the organization named above. Description. Age 18 years; height 5 feet 7 inches; complexion fair; eyes blue; hair fair; where born Auglaize Co., Ohio; Occupation blacksmith. Enlistment. When Aug. 24, 1862; where St. Mary's O.; by whom Lt. Ferguson; term 3 years. Remarks: Mortally wounded May 30, 1864 in front of Dallas, Ga. Died at Ackworth, Ga., June 8, 1864. Lopez, copyist.

1864 Death:349 "Adjt. Genl. reports Ephraim Morey enrolled Aug. 24, 1862 and died June 8, 1864 of wound received at Dallas, Ga., May 30, 1864." "Died at Ackworth in the State of Georgia of a wound received at Dallas, Georgia on the 8th day of June 1864."

1864 Estate Inventory:184 Inventory of the effects of Ephraim Morey late a Private of Captain G. W. Overmyer, Company G of the 81st Regiment of Ohio Infantry Volunteers, who was enrolled as a Private at St. Mary's in the State of Ohio on the 24th day of August 1862, and mustered into the service of the United States as a Private on the 29th day of October 1862, at Lima, Ohio in Company G, 81st Regiment of Ohio Infantry Volunteers, to serve three years of during the war; he was born in Auglaize County in the State of Ohio; he was 18 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation, when enrolled, a blacksmith; he died in Division Hospital near Dallas, Georgia on the 8th day of June 1864, by reason of wounds received in action. I certify that the above soldier died possessed of no affects. [signed] Thomas Harfska, 2nd Lieut., Co. E, 81st Ohio, near East Point, Georgia, September 17, 1864.
