Family Remembrance:2486 "The obituary of son, Francis, said Alvin took his family by canal boat thru the Great Lakes to Chicago in 1853, and settled at Wilmington, Will county, Illinois. They had lived at Albion, Oswego County, New York, where children were by first wife; not found 1860; 1870 with wife, Elizabeth, at Braceville, Grundy County, Illinois; 1880 Gardner, Grundy County, Illinois. He was first a joiner or carpenter, then a butcher, and then an insurance agent. Chicago city directories list Mary, "widow of Alvin Frary," 1863-1882. Census 1900 of widow Elizabeth said "mother of 11, 4 deceased." When located, the 1860 census may show more children; eighteen are known."

Family Remembrance:2487 "The dude fathered 18 children (11 by Mary Ann, and 7 by 2nd wife Elizabeth Laymon) My dad told me "Old Alvin as a mean son'bitch!" Don't laugh, but I saw his ghost in my living room once a long time ago, and the very next day, I got a letter from a cemetery telling me that they found his grave in Colorado -- SPOOKY huh?? John Frary 9-23-2000."
