1822 Death:4015 "Great calamity — About a quarter of an hour before 12 on Saturday night, the 23rd ult. the office of Thomas M. T. McKennan, Esq. Attorney at Law in Maiden St., was discovered to be on fire. Office and adjoining tenements, belonging to James Chambers, both frame buildings, were burned to the ground. Some time after the fire when people generally had retired mournful exclamations were heard from persons running. A number of people were standing together near the place when a stack of chimneys which had been left standing gave way and buried 10 of our citizens. The following were killed instantly: . . . Henry Taylor, son of Matthew Taylor, aged near 19 years."
