1866 Church Membership:1877, 15th Session, 1866, p. 48. M. Cadwell attended the Northwest Indiana Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, representing Union Chapel of the Valparaiso District.

1870 U.S. Census:2590 Mary enumerated in the household of her husband William Cadwell in Union Township, Porter County, Indiana as a female, age 37, white, keeping house, born in Ohio. Stepson Malphus and children Ida May, Homer, and Don also resided in the household.

Note: Porter County marriage records (v. 4, p. 134) list the marriage of William Cadwell to Mary Hollister on 1 January 1873. It is unknown by this researcher if this refers to the William Cadwell described here or another member of the extended Cadwell family living in Porter County. It is possible that Mary Gilbert died before 1873 and that William married for a third time, to Mary Hollister.

1880 U.S. Census:2589 Mary enumerated in the household of her husband William Cadwell in Union Township, Porter County, Indiana as a white female, age 46, wife, married, keeps house, born in Ohio, father born in Pennsylvania, mother born in Pennsylvania.
