Notes for John Fleming KEYSOR

Family Remembrance:2130 "Died at the home of his son, Kit Keysor, in Clay Twp., Auglaize County, Ohio of a kidney ailment. He came to Ohio as a child with his mother. It is not known whether the family first settled in Champaign or Clark or in that part of Allen Co. which was later to become a part of Auglaize co. There were several members of the Morris family who settled in Champaign and Clark counties. Mr. Keysor often told, how as a boy, he helped drive herds of pigs from near Urbana, Ohio to Pittsburgh, Pa. where they were sold. His uncle, John Morris, settled in what is now Union Twp., Auglaize County in 1833 and it was there that John Keysor met and married Barbara Baughman May 14, 1849. June 20, 1875 (after Barbara's death) John married the widow, Nancy (Copeland) Arthur. There were no children born to that union. John Keysor was a farmer and also engaged in lumbering. A short time after his 2nd marriage, he moved to Van Wert County where he engaged in logging. He later returned to Auglaize Co. and spent his remaining years at the home of his son, Kit. It may also be noted at this point, that the spelling of the family name has changed, however, we still use the same pronunciation. Why change in spelling? No explanation. In the Auglaize County records John Keysor's name is spelled variously -- Keyser, Kieser, and Keysor. Although on a receipt he signed in 1851, he uses the Keyser spelling. But in the records of his children the name KEYSOR is firmly established."
