Notes for Abigail STRATTON

1779 Birth:359, p. 83.,1187, booklet 3, Burlington Township, p. 20. Williamstown, Massachusetts records indicate "Stratton, Abigail, d. John and Mary, Mar. 15, 1779." This is consistent (off by one day) with birth date calculated from age at death (63 years, 5 months, 21 days) on 1842 tombstone Homer Cemetery, Homer, Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio.

1790 U.S. Census:1926 Abigail enumerated in the household of her father John Stratton in Rutland Township, Rutland County, Vermont as one of three females. Abigail was about age 11. The other females assumed to be Abigails’s mother Mary and an as yet unidentified sister.

1800 U.S. Census:148, p. 125. Abigail enumerated in the household of her husband Abraham Morey in Rutland Township, Rutland County, Vermont as a female age 16 to 26; Abigail was age 21. Son Asa and daughters Laura and Mary "Polly" were also residing in the household.

1810 U.S. Census:641 Not yet located; possibilities include:
Abraham More641 - Bridport Township, Addison County, Vermont, p. 21. (Family pattern (01101-30110) is similar, but has several inconsistencies. In addition, an Abraham More is listed in Bridport Township in both 1800 and 1820 which tends to indicate this is not Abraham Morey.
Abraham Moor2420 - Mt. Holly Township, Rutland County, Vermont, p. 103. (Family pattern (10010-30010) fits the known facts quite well. Son Asa and daughters Laura, Mary, and Nancy are accounted for. Samantha's absence is questionable.

1830 U.S. Census:2373 Abigail enumerated in the household of her husband Abraham Morey in Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio as a female age 50 to 60; Abigail would have been age 51. In addition to her husband Abraham, age 57, one male age 5 to 10 (son John Franklin) and one male age 15 to 20 (son Stillman) were also living in the household.

1836 Relinquishment of Dower Right:1244 On 22 August 1836, Abigail Morey, widow of Abraham Morey "late of the township of Burlington," relinquished right of dower in thirty-three and one half acres, sold by the estate administrator to Josiah Scott, for the sum of $100. Josiah Scott was married to Abigail and Abraham’s daughter Samantha.

1840 U.S. Census:
2110 Abigail enumerated in the household of her son-in-law Josiah Scott in Washington Township, Licking County, Ohio as a female age 50 to 60. Daughter Samantha, two grandsons, and two granddaughters also resided in the household. Washington Township adjacent to Burlington Township. Homer in Burlington Township and Utica in Washington Township are about 5 miles apart.
