Biographical Sketch (1923):1697 "Mary Hurst was born in Manchester, England, April 2, 1818 and emigrated to the United States with her parents in 1831. The family located in Philadelphia, Pa., where they remained for a few years, and then removed to Newport, Ky., where she was united in marriage to Robert McMurray II. She was a woman of deep religious convictions and one of the sweetest Christian characters ever met. She died on Saturday October 24th, 1896. She was a lady of whom it has been said that she never spoke an unkind word of anyone."

Son Robert McMurray, age 18, enumerated in the Lorentz Bimel household in St. Marys township as a male, age 18, blacksmith. Son William James McMurray enumerated in the household of his grandfather Robert McMurray Sr. in Duchouquet Township, Auglaize County, Ohio as a male, age 11, born in Kentucky, attended school within the year.

1871 Inheritance from Father-in-Law:392 In his 1871 will, Robert McMurray Sr., left $50 to Mary, the widow of his son Robert, as well as $200 to each of Mary's three children, Robert, Sophia, and William.

1880 U.S. Census:1569 Mary McMurray enumerated in household of her son-in-law A. J. Morey as white, female, 55, mother-in-law, widowed, born in England, father born in England, mother born in England.

1896 Obituary:1709 Mrs. Mary McMurray nee Hurst died Oct. 24, 1896. 78y 6m 22d Born April 2, 1818 in Ashton-Under-Line, Lancastershire, England. Emigrated to this country with parents in 1831 and located in Philadelphia, Pa. After a few years they moved to Newport, Kentucky, where in 1840 she married Robert McMurray, also a native of England. They lived a few years in Newport, also Covington, Ky., and Dayton, Ohio. The deceased was left a widow in 1857 with 3 children, 2 sons and 1 daughter. The family came to Auglaize in 1859, locating first at St. Marys. In 1860 came to Wapakoneta and remained the rest of her life. Leaves 1 child, Wm. J. McFarland [McMurray?]. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, later transferred to First English Lutheran church in Wapakoneta in 1868. Buried Greenlawn Cemetery. Will Morey of Chicago attended funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. McMurray. "Personals."
