| Notes for Jesiah "Jesse" BAUGHMAN | ||||||||||||
Family Remembrance:410 "As you have already noted Isiah, Jesiah, and Jesse Baughman, son of Henry, are all one and the same person. Aside from the information you have, I have a few other items derived in part from his Civil War pension application, Certificate Number 732695. He was living in Columbus, Ohio in 1891 when he applied for a pension, having served 100 days in 1864 in Company G, 156th, Ohio National Guard. He died on or about 1 July 1901 according to a letter dated 18 February 1937 in his pension file. This letter was sent from the Veterans Administration at Camp Custer, Michigan to the 'Director of Claims Veterans Administration, Washington DC.' In it a Dr. Clarke is inquiring what was the nature of Jesse's disability because his son Jesse Baughman [Jr.] was ' suffering from Huntington's chorea which is supposed to be hereditary.' An earlier letter of 21 January 1937 from the same doctor had asked for the names of his (Jesse [Jr.'s]) wife and dependent children. The reply to Dr. Clarke gives no such names and indicates Jesse was receiving a pension for a hernia and for senility. Jesse is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Franklin County, Ohio. His standard military marker gives only his rank, Private, and military organization. I have never attempted to follow up on what may have become of Jesse's other children listed in the 1860 census or whether Jesse [Jr.] had any children or other relations in Michigan." 1843 Death of Wife:427 First wife Minerva died 11 August 1843, according to tombstone of Minerva Baughman, wife of Jesiah. 1846 Second Marriage:540 Jesse Baughman married Sarah Tobias, Sept. 17, 1846 in Allen County, Ohio. 1849 Land Purchase:541 Jesiah Baughman, Auglaize County, purchased land from John and Ruth Corder, Auglaize County, on November 9, 1849 for $13. 1850 Tax List, Auglaize County, Ohio:542 Josiah Baughman listed in the Auglaize County Delinquent Tax List for Pusheta Personal Property Tax, showing no tax owed for 1850, but a penalty for 1849 of $108.10, with notation "not collected for want of time." 1850 Land Purchase:418 David Baughman, Auglaize County, purchased land from Josiah and Sarah Baughman, Auglaize County, on July 16, 1850 for $70.
